Comprehensive Initially, it was simply; Comprehensive Secondary School. It acquired the additional word “Serinya” when it relocated. It was started in 2011 by a couple – Mr. & Mrs. Mukasa who happen to be professional teachers also. Hitherto, Mrs. Mukasa had been serving as a Head teacher at Trust Secondary School, Kateera in Bukomero, Kiboga District. She used to commute from Kampala to the school weekly. Tired of the constant movement, she conferred with the spouse and they decided to start their own school. They got premises in Ganda, Nansana where they rented. The premises they got
were previously rentals. This was towards the end of 2010. They embarked on the mobilization of the necessary essential items needed to start a school, items like furniture, beds, utensils etc. and in January 2011, they were ready to receive students in their new school. Luckily, Mrs. Mukasa was joined by some staff from her previous station and some parents decided to make their children follow her to her new station. For this reason, unlike most new starting schools, Comprehensive began with a sizeable student population of
about 150 students. As would be expected, there were many challenges in the beginning. The first challenge was the high cost of rent and the Landlord would want it in the first week of each term. It was so high that, all considered, it would make little business sense to run a business there. We withstood it because we had no quick alternative. The other issue was the size of the rooms. The premises had been meant to be rentals, therefore the size of the rooms were small compared to the numbers of the students. In many cases the students were squeezed and congested. Generally, the premises and the environment was not very conducive for a school. Nevertheless, we persevered and stayed on for a good five years.
In 2016 we re-located to our new site at Serinya, Wakiso district. We had secured land there
earlier and embarked on some constructions but structures were far from being complete let alone being ready to accommodate learners. Nevertheless, we decided to shift so that we move away from the congested environment yet charging exorbitant rent. Fortunately, all parties who would be affected by the relocation appreciated the need to shift and were ready to withstand and persevere the hard conditions in the beginning.
After re-location, we continued with the construction and improvement of the infrastructure only to be interrupted by the outbreak Covid – 19. When schools resumed after the lockdown, we picked up quickly from its effect and as we write now, Comprehensive Secondary School – Serinya has taken shape and is a School which almost lacks nothing. We have a well-stocked library, a well-equipped science laboratory, equipped computer laboratory and adequate and experienced teachers. To crown it all, the school has its own UNEB Centre and recently acquired DIT Centre as well. We are very grateful to our good parents who have religiously stuck with us through thick and thin. We pledge to continue serving you to the best of our ability always striving to excel in academics, bringing up well-disciplined learners and equip them with vocational skills to enable them be competitive in these challenging times.
